I really took notice of these
trees when I was doing the 10 canvas-long panorama in the early summer
of 2006.
Planted my the Keren Kayemet (forestation
authority) in the early 90's, these trees have suffered the ravages of
the weather (dryness and strong windstorms) and the Bedouins' grazing
goats who the foliage as high as they can reach standing on their hind
legs. This accounts for their stuntedness and shape. They
drew me down from the ridge into the roliing wadi land to observe and
record them. Not all trees have survived since painting them.

the its end, on the right side of the canvasses.

A strong windstorm levelled the
trees that had been planted on the wadis edge in the spring of 2007,
not long after painting this. This tree still survives, yet lost
about 80% of its branches and foliage.
