The
summer has drawn to an end, the High-Holiday season is over and, yes, hopefully
we’re back to our normal output again after last month’s issue being hit
by hard-disk breakdowns on both your scribes’ computers. Now,
if these doggone pesky computers could only be as reliable as my 18-year
old HF transceiver….
It
is not an easy task, to write a newsletter, or for that matter a magazine.
Therefore allow me to start with a “Kol Ha-Kavod” to our editors. For the
non Hebrew speaking, the words“Kol
Ha-Kavod” mean literally,All the
honour to you.And true, to see to
it, that every issue gets out in time, and has information which is the
interest of most of the readers, is to say the least a ‘headache’.Than
if you get a surprise visit from ‘Murphy’ well,.. as we all know, he is
the most un-welcome guest imaginable.So
fellow editors, 4X1AT, 4X1MK, 4X6LM, my compliments.
The
IARC, has finally received the green light, (in writing) to go ahead with
the credit card size licenses, the first batch of applications has been
passed to the Ministry for processing. It involves a small fee 72 shekels
(about 18 US dollars) to be paid by the amateur, he will than receive his
new ‘credit card size license’, valid till the 31st ofDecember
2004.The new license sports a picture,
is in English & Hebrew and has the CEPT info as well.Truly
an International license.It is the
IARC that spawned the idea, as well as the bulldozer to bring it about.
It is only fair, that the IARC has its own demands, which is, you must
be a paid up member of the club to apply.
Also
in the works is a new 4X-4Z call book, hopefully it will ready for distribution
at the beginning of the year 2001. It will include many changes from the
old one as many amateurs upgraded, eceived new calls in the light of the
5 w.p.m. CW.Not to forget that over
the years some have moved to new premises and had their phones changed.
Holyland
Contest 2001, special plans are being “devised” for the 10th
Anniversary of this ever more popular contest. Also our compliments to
the Contest Manager 4Z4KX, who has to deal with the numerous logs that
come arrive, in all shapes, forms, and script. After month of work, he
compiles a neat booklet with the help of his computer. The
results for the 2000 Contest, can be received electronically as well, just
send an e-mail to Mark 4Z4KXat

The
space in our IARC Office is ever diminishing. It now supports a complete
HF station which is on the air as 4X4ARC(Amateur
Radio Club) it is also open to members to do their contesting there. Lessons
in the art of amateur radio are given, and an occasional lecture. Not to
forget the Va’ad (Council) meetings, for which there is many times “standing
room” only available.And than the
ever popular Friday mornings, get together “Membership Services”.Occasionally
a visiting Ham (kosher of course) from overseas, does us the honor of a
visit.
