*Congratulations to Mark Stern 4Z4KX on his acceptance to the FOC (the “First Class Operators”), an organisation of very proficient CW operators.We have two other members of this elite group, Ricki 4X4NJ and Danny 4X1FC.Mark is also on his way to Finland to adjudicate in the WRTC contest.This competition sets up top Dxers to work unders identical operating conditions during the IARU contest, and Mark is one of the chosen judges.More to follow on this in a future issue.
*Ziv 4X1UK reports that contacts between Israeli school children and the upcoming Space Shuttle is in the offing.This will be the first flight of an Israeli astronaut and naturally will be getting a lot of media coverage here.This is a golden opportunity to get recognition of amateur radio on the TV, radio and press, and we must make the most of this opportunity to attract young people to ham radio.
*Ministry of Communications amateur radio examinations were held recentlyat the IARC HQ.Many were present including four students of 4Z5IS, Eli Stern, from the Re’ut-Maccabim club.
*From the Amishav Club for the Sightless there are four new hams:4Z5OR, 4Z5QI, 4Z5OX and 4Z5PD, the last two being a married couple.Their electronics instructor was Tamir 4X1YT.At this centre in Petach Tikvah, club callsign 4X6EK, there have already been two courses for the blind.Former graduates are 4Z5KI, 4Z5KL, 4Z5KB and 4Z5MD.
